If you have questions about our scholarships, here are the answers! Please read these frequently asked questions to see if we've answered your question. If not, feel free to email us!

I'm a non-traditional student. I'm older and going back to school. Would I qualify for a scholarship?
Answer: Yes! The Foundation offers scholarships for colleges, trade schools and other programs to students who are at-risk. It does not matter how old, or young, you are.

I graduated from high school years 20 ago. Do you still need my high school transcript?
Answer: Yes. Your scholarship application is not complete unless your transcript is included. High schools are very helpful in sending your transcript promptly.

I am enrolled in an online university. Will I qualify for your foundation's scholarship?
Answer: The Foundation offers scholarships only to Wyoming schools and programs. If your on-line program is offered through a Wyoming institution, it will qualify. If your on-line program is offered through an out-of-state institution, it will NOT qualify.

I dropped out of high school but have received my GED. Do I qualify for a scholarship?
Answer: Yes. Students who have a GED do qualify for our scholarships. Be sure to include your GED score on your application.

Your application says I should fill it out in my own handwriting but I have bad penmanship. May I type it or have someone else write it for me?
Answer: Fill it out yourself. It is important for our Scholarship Committee to learn as much as possible about you to help in making a decision to award you a scholarship. Exceptions are made only for students who have a physical disability.

I'd like to send my scholarship application electronically. May I do that instead of mailing it?
Answer: No. A hard copy of all scholarship applications must be mailed to our Foundation office.

Your application says it must be postmarked by November 15 (for spring semester) or May 15 (for fall semester). Does that mean my application has to be sent really early or by over-night mail to reach you in time?
Answer: No. This means you must have it at the post office by that date. All qualifying applications postmarked by the specified date will be considered by our Scholarship Committee.

I want to attend a college that is out of state. Does I qualify for your scholarship?
Answer: The Foundation offers scholarships only to Wyoming schools and programs. Students who attend out of state schools do not qualify.

I will receive the Hathaway scholarship but it won't be enough to pay for the program I've chosen. Can I still apply for your help?
Answer: Because our Foundation is dedicated to helping student who have no other resources, they are available only to those who do not qualify for ANY level of Hathaway scholarships.

I'm not from Wyoming but will be moving there to go to college. Can I apply?
Answer: No. Scholarships are available only to Wyoming residents who are attending Wyoming schools.

Your scholarship application says I need to include a "Work Keys Assessment." My school doesn't give a Work Keys test. Do I still qualify for a scholarship?
Answer: Yes. If you haven't taken a Work Keys test, there is no need to include it in the application. But if you have taken the test, please include your Work Keys Assessment. It will help the Scholarship Committee determine your eligibility for a scholarship.

Your scholarship application says I need to include two letters of recommendation. I don't know many people. Do I have to send both letters?
Answer: Yes. It is important to include all of the information requested on the application. Recommendation letters may come from teachers, counselors, coaches, employers, adult mentors, community leaders - any NON-Family member who knows you.

The scholarship form asks for a lot of information about my future plans. Do I have to fill out every section?
Answer: Be sure to fill out the entire scholarship application. Every answer helps our Scholarship Community know you better and understand your need for help from the Foundation.

Does this foundation provide scholarships to graduate students?
Answer: All applications are considered on a case-by-case basis. Eligibility for scholarships is determined by a number of factors. Preference is always given to students who are at-risk.

Your next scholarship deadline isn't for months. I want to start school now. Can you give me a scholarship before next semester?
Answer: No. Scholarships are offered on a semester or twice-yearly basis. Be sure to get your application in by the deadline so you will be considered for the next semester.

How many scholarships do you offer?
Answer: Availability of scholarships is determined by the amount of contributions we receive from our generous supporters but the Foundation is committed to offering 12 scholarships per semester.

How much is your scholarship?
Answer: Scholarships for full-time students is $1,250 per semester. Part-time students receive a maximum of $625 per semester.

The program I'm attending doesn't have quarters or semester. It is a year-long school. Am I eligible for more assistance during the program?
Answer: Scholarships are offered twice a year - in January and August. You may apply for both scholarships, even if your school does not have two semesters.

I have received one scholarship from your Foundation. Does that mean I automatically receive another scholarship for next semester?
Answer: No. Everyone must re-apply if they want to receive additional help. Application forms for 'prior scholarship recipients' are available on the website.

If I am awarded a scholarship, do you send me a check?
Answer: No. All scholarships awards are sent directly to the college or program which you will attend.

In what ways may I use scholarship money?
Answer: Your scholarship may be applied to tuition, or any other school expense payable through the college. Expenses other than tuition could be room and board, school fees, or books, but each school is different as to which of these expenses are payable to the school.

Do I have to take a certain number of classes or credit hours to apply for a scholarship?
Answer: No. Scholarships are available for any number of classes. Sometimes it is better for beginning students to take only one or two classes until they feel comfortable with the college process.
